THURSDAY 7 AUGUST

Dung Beetle, 6-9pm book relaunch 'We Go to the Gallery' by Miriam Elia
http://miriamelia.co.uk/
3J classroom, Soho Parish Primary School, 23 Great Windmill Street, London, W1D 7LF
We Go to the Gallery is arguably the most exciting at project of this year. The book shows Mummy and her two kids go to a gallery, where mummy explains contemporary art to her kids. The book was greeted with enthusiasm by everyone frustrated by contemporary art (which is almost anyone who has ever seen contemporary art), the publishing industry was less enthusiastic and Penguin/Ladybird sued the book for copyright infringements.
This event relaunches the book and also introduces the new publishing house - Dung Beetle, that aims to
1)help children to that there is nothing to understand, 2) ensure the child's own opinions match those of the arts elite, 3)prepare the young people for a lifetime of crippling uncertainty.

http://thegraffitilifegallery.co.uk/upcoming/

abandoned, derelict and often unloved spaces, the two have developed very distinct and identifiable styles from a melting pot of similar inspirations.

Work Gallery, 6-8pm private view Stanley Kubrick 'New Perspectives'
http://workgallery.co.uk/WORK_2012-06-12/WORK_2014_Stanley_Kubrick_New_Perspectives.html
10 Acton Street, London, WC1X 9NG
Stanley Kubrick’s auterism and attention to detail are legendary. A voracious absorber and synthesizer of all forms of information, Kubrick involved himself in all aspects of his films, from initial research through to publicity.
A distinctive feature of Kubrick’s unique visual style was the development of filmic spaces that are imaginative and often fantastic, yet also absorbing and ‘believable’ in their completeness of vision. To achieve this effect on screen, a high level of detail was required during pre-production and production stages: not just in regards to the physical sets and models, but also lighting, editing, and other framing and emphatic devices. The ways in which the actors and the camera inhabited the sets created psychological spaces overlaying these physical environments.
The exhibition marks the publication of Stanley Kubrick: New Perspectives by Black Dog Publishing, a collection of essays by scholars working closely with the Stanley Kubrick Archive to gain new insights into Kubrick’s 50 years of filmmaking. The anthology will be available in late August at the special launch price of £24 (RRP £29.95) from PAPERWORK Bookshop.

Studio 1.1, 6-9pm private view Joshua Raffell 'Craft and Controversy'
http://www.studio1-1.co.uk
57a Redchurch St London E2 7DJ
Joshua Raffell makes work that invites - insists on - the viewer's participation: we turn handles, peer into peepholes, are shocked and/or amused, and question our shock or amusement. Some of us try not to look, try to stop others looking, for their own sake. His work has been vandalised, censored, and damaged by over-enthusiastic cranking. He has driven it through the streets of central London on the back of a bike, and parked it in Trafalgar Square for the enjoyment of tourists. For the last few years he has concentrated on dolls, stitching together miscellaneous scraps of fabric into monstrous masturbating polygendered figures (that's where the cranking comes in). Now, for his first solo show at studio1.1, where he was artist in residence 2011-12, he is taking his art back to its natural habitat, the seaside pier amusement arcade. Boxes and other receptacles will have holes in the side, inviting us to bend and peep. What we see might stop us sleeping: inside the box there's more than the butler ever saw, as Dario Argento meets Donald McGill.

Whitechapel gallery, 7-9pm performance Modes of Aberrant Research http://www.whitechapelgallery.org/shop/index.php/fuseaction/shop.product/product_id/1970?session_id=140589085921b5bf6b0544bfcd435547829d08639c
77-82 Whitechapel High St London E1 7QX

An evening of deviant anecdotes, radical storytelling and narrative segues through archives, collections and institutions.

The Mosaic Room are pleased to present the UK launch of Mai Al-Nakib’s collection of short stories entitled The Hidden Light of Objects.
The Hidden Light of Objects is a collection of loosely connected short stories set mainly in the Middle East. They trace quiet, ignored moments in a region overwhelmed by geopolitical, military, and religious forces. Although the stories engage familiar events in the region—the invasion of Kuwait, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the civil war in Lebanon—the focus is on the everyday lives of people who live there. The stories are linked through character, place, tone, and, especially, a series of objects. The Hidden Light of Objects is about loss and memory, war and love, and the strange longing objects can unexpectedly trigger.

Dalston Superstore, 7pm private view Gary Russell 'We Live in Our Dreams'
garyrussellart.tumblr.com
117 Kingsland High St, London E8 2PB
The remarkable collages of Gary Russell return to the walls of Dalston Superstore, this time for his biggest solo show to date. With a cut and a paste of monochrome paper, these imaginative pieces of work will take you on a folktale journey, through the forbidden gate, down to the woods, into your dreams and beyond.
Whilst attending the Cambridge School Of Art, Russell experimented with printing and the manipulation of paper. After graduating his creative digits were put aside, until a few years later when he took sanction in the medium of collage. That seemed to click and has succeeded ever since.
“We Live In Our Dreams” is a collection of original and re-worked pieces exploring the combination of mysticism and established imagination. Using a variety of black and white paper, photocopies, photographs and torn older works, these pieces will give a dramatic contrast to the ever-colorful atmosphere of Dalston Superstore.

TUESDAY 26 AUGUST

Hanmi Gallery, 6-9pm private view Aisha Abid Hussain 'Two Not Together'
http://www.hanmigallery.co.uk/exhibitions/future/
30 Maple Street London W1T 6HA United Kingdom

One may view Aisha Abid Hussain’s recent work as a cabinet with many drawers‭, ‬to be slid open‭, ‬one by one‭, ‬exposing the carefully assembled private chronicles‭. ‬The coming together of two individuals in holy or unholy bonds of marriage is a rapidly altering episode in human relationships‭.‬‭ ‬“Two Not Together”‭ ‬interrogates our assumptions‭, ‬our clichés and our romance with the institution of marriage‭. ‬She contrives a staged moment‭, ‬replete with the finery and the trimmings of attire and dreams‭. ‬The farcical underpinnings of the charade do not escape scrutiny‭. ‬Her delight in baroque role-playing only emphasises the patent ridiculousness of each person’s expectations‭. ‬Yet there is a tinge of sadness here‭. ‬The inevitability of decay‭, ‬both physical and emotional is at the core of‭ ‬Hussain’s image-making‭.‬
